DOB 6/01/03 Copper is registered as a sorrel stallion (gelded now, of course) that is a very bright red every summer. Come winter, he gets very dark with soot. Almost black! This picture was taken just as it started to get cool. As you can see, some of the ground covering is still green but he's started to get his winter coat. Copper is one gaited fool!!! This guy moves like a hound dawg strolling through the pasture. Just a loose moving roooolling way of going at a walk and foxtrot. And his canter is simply amazing!

He'd already been under saddle as a 2 yr old when he had his "30 days training". I put him back out to pasture when I got him in 2005 to finish growing. He was scheduled to start basic groundwork this spring but endured a catastrophic setback. He was impaled by a t-post when his own dam, the very Alpha mare that she is, shoved him through a fence on Feb 9, 2007. He's well recovered now and his training has begun.

He may no longer be my next show prospect as I had hoped due to the injury, but he will definitely make my son the most wonderfully smooth and gentle mount out on the trails. He proved his temperament to me through all of his pain and angst. And like I thought, he is a very tolerant and gentle soul. He is EXTREMELY playful, but a great horse to have in my pastures and barn. He is a true testament to just how calm, quiet and well-natured, not to mention pain-tolerant the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse REALLY is!! I couldn't be happier with this fellow!

You can visit Copper's dam, Rose , by clicking on her name and going to the mares page. His sire is A Dark Horse S. with a pedigree that boasts Mr Koscot, Pooles' Blue Boy, (double bred Poole), Merry Boy and Danney Boy. I can't wait to ride Copper out on the trails! It may have taken a while longer than I'd hoped to get him under saddle, but it'll be well worth the wait.
